Kremlin reacts to allegations of Chinese involvement in Ukraine war

(MENAFN) The Kremlin has dismissed Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s claims that China is participating in the Ukraine conflict on Russia’s side, calling the accusations false. Speaking on Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that China has maintained a neutral and balanced stance and remains a close strategic partner of Russia.

Zelensky made the allegations earlier in the week through a short video that he said showed a captured Chinese national fighting for Russia. He claimed two such individuals were in Ukrainian custody and suggested that many more were fighting alongside Russian forces. Zelensky called on the US and EU to take urgent action in response.

Peskov denied the allegations outright, stating, “That’s not true,” and reaffirmed China’s non-involvement. Meanwhile, China’s Foreign Ministry also rejected the claims, with spokesperson Lin Jian labeling them “groundless.” He emphasized that Beijing advises its citizens against participating in any foreign military conflicts and reiterated China’s well-known neutral position on the Ukraine crisis.

In response to Zelensky’s video, Ukrainian opposition MP Aleksandr Dubinsky, who faces treason charges, suggested the footage might have been fabricated. He posted a screenshot indicating that the video file was originally named “Korean_Soldier_2.mp4,” raising doubts about its authenticity. Dubinsky questioned whether this was an intentional fake or simply an error, noting that Ukrainian officials would now need to clarify the situation to China.

Ukraine has previously accused other nations, including Iran and North Korea, of aiding Russia. Western nations have echoed some of these claims, alleging North Korea has sent as many as 12,000 troops to Russia, though no concrete evidence has been presented.
