Trump Confirms Military Action to Acquire Greenland
When questioned about the possibility, Trump remarked, “I don’t rule it out,” adding, “I don’t say I’m going to do it, but I don’t rule out anything.”
His comments underscored his ongoing interest in the territory despite international opposition.
The president emphasized the significance of Greenland, describing it as essential for “international security.” He stated, “We need Greenland very badly,” underlining its strategic value.
Trump also referred to the local population, asserting, “Greenland is a very small amount of people, which we’ll take care of, and we’ll cherish them, and all of that,” implying his administration’s willingness to integrate and support the island’s residents.
Since taking office in January, Trump has consistently conveyed his desire to acquire the semi-autonomous Danish territory, despite Denmark’s persistent refusal.
Greenland, which has remained under Danish sovereignty since the 1700s, was granted its own governance structure in 1979.
Located between the Arctic and Atlantic oceans, Greenland possesses an abundance of natural resources and occupies a strategically vital position.
Despite its appeal, both the Danish government and Greenland’s leadership have rejected any attempts to negotiate a transfer.
A public poll from January revealed that a vast majority—85 percent—of Greenland’s citizens are against becoming part of the United States.
