U.S. Senator Calls for Restraint Amid India-Pakistan Military Surge
Shaheen stated, "I am gravely concerned by reports of military escalation between India and Pakistan following the senseless terrorist attacks targeting innocent Indian civilians on April 22." She further implored, "I implore the two governments to exercise restraint and prioritize diplomatic engagement. The world can ill afford instability in South Asia."
The Senator also voiced her desire for those responsible for the April 22nd attack to be brought to justice "as soon as possible."
Her statement followed India's missile strikes on nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, which reportedly resulted in casualties and injuries. Pakistan's military reported fatalities and injuries, and that some people are missing.
The recent escalation is linked to the April 22nd attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which resulted in 26 deaths. India has accused Pakistan of involvement, alleging cross-border connections, a claim Pakistan has denied.
