Two Israeli embassy employees shot dead in Washington DC

(MENAFN) Two staff members from the Israeli Embassy were fatally shot near the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC, on Wednesday evening, in what Israeli officials are calling a “depraved act of antisemitic terrorism.” The incident occurred during an event hosted by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) at the museum.

Authorities confirmed that two individuals affiliated with the Israeli Embassy were shot just outside the venue. Their identities have not been released yet.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem posted on social media that federal authorities are actively investigating the attack. The shooting happened near 3rd Street and F Street NW, directly across from the FBI’s Washington Field Office. Police quickly sealed off the area and asked the public to stay away. A person of interest is currently being questioned, though no arrests have been made.

The Israeli Embassy confirmed that the ambassador was not present and that they are cooperating with U.S. law enforcement agencies. Israeli UN Ambassador Danny Danon condemned the act, labeling it as a targeted attack against Jews and Israeli representatives.

Top U.S. officials, including Attorney General Pam Bondi and Interim U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro, arrived at the scene soon after the shooting and pledged accountability.

The Capital Jewish Museum, which moved into its new location in 2023, frequently hosts events that promote Jewish heritage. Wednesday’s AJC gathering brought together diplomats, Jewish organizations, and community leaders.

AJC CEO Ted Deutch called the shooting an “unspeakable act of violence,” stating that the organization’s thoughts are with the victims and their families as investigations continue.
