Syria Lauds U.S. Sanctions Lift, Eyes Reconstruction
In an official statement, the Foreign Ministry underscored its willingness to collaborate with all nations"on the basis of mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs" of Syria. The statement further emphasized that the "coming period will be a period for rebuilding what was destroyed by the deposed regime, and to restore Syria's normal position in the region and the world."
The move follows the US Treasury Department's issuance of a general license on Friday, which provides immediate sanctions relief for Syria.
"As President Trump promised, the Treasury Department and the State Department are implementing authorizations to encourage new investment into Syria," stated Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent.
Last week, during a tour of the Middle East, President Donald Trump had pledged to order the removal of "brutal and crippling" US sanctions on Syria, aiming to afford the nation "a chance at greatness."
A statement from the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control confirmed that the general license sanctions authorize transactions previously prohibited by the Syrian Sanctions Regulations, effectively lifting the economic restrictions. This action is expected to foster new investment and stimulate private sector activity in Syria.
