Kremlin Criticizes Removal of Range Limits on Ukraine’s Weapons
He expressed these views on Monday in reaction to statements made by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who revealed that Ukraine is no longer bound by range limitations on arms supplied by Western nations.
Peskov emphasized that if such a decision has truly been taken, it is completely inconsistent with Russia’s hopes for a diplomatic solution and undermines the current attempts aimed at settling the dispute.
He described these moves as “quite dangerous decisions,” if confirmed, underscoring the risks involved.
During the EuropaForum on Monday, Chancellor Merz declared that “there are no longer any range restrictions” on weapons provided by the West to Ukraine, which are being used against Russian military targets.
He specified that countries like the UK, France, Germany, and the US no longer impose these limitations, as reported by a news agency.
Meanwhile, Moscow has consistently cautioned Western nations against engaging in the conflict by supplying Kiev with targeting information from NATO satellites, which facilitates long-distance attacks on Russian territory.
Additionally, Russian Leader Vladimir Putin has authorized a revised nuclear doctrine that broadens the conditions under which a strategic response may be triggered.
This now includes situations where aggression by a non-nuclear country, or a coalition of states supported by a nuclear power, could be perceived as a “joint attack.”
