China Calls on U.S. to Protect International Students’ Rights
At a Beijing press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning emphasized, "China upholds that normal education cooperation and academic exchanges should not be disrupted.”
She continued, “We urge the U.S. to effectively safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of all international students, including Chinese students overseas."
This move comes as the Trump administration directed U.S. embassies to pause scheduling new student visa interviews amid plans to expand social media screening for foreign students aiming to study in the US.
On Tuesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed an order instructing consular officers to halt scheduling new interviews for international student visa applications until further notice, expected in the coming days.
