Kremlin Accuses EU of Blocking Peace Amid Germany-Ukraine Missile Deal
At a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Berlin on Wednesday, Merz announced Germany’s commitment to aiding Ukraine in the domestic production of long-range missiles. In response, Peskov told journalist Pavel Zarubin, “All these actions, of course, hinder peaceful efforts,” and added that “Germany is competing with France” in escalating the conflict further.
Despite “all the obstacles,” Peskov expressed hope that diplomatic progress remains achievable. He said it might still be possible to move forward with talks, including conducting a second round of negotiations.
Earlier this month, Russia and Ukraine engaged in their first direct discussions since 2022. The two sides agreed to draft a memorandum outlining detailed proposals for ending the conflict, completed a historic 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner swap on Sunday, and committed to continuing negotiations.
On Wednesday, Merz refrained from providing additional details while unveiling the "new form of military-industrial cooperation." He stated, "We want to enable joint production."
Furthermore, he mentioned that a "memorandum of understanding" regarding long-range missiles would be signed later in the day by the defense ministers of Germany and Ukraine.
