Sisi, Macron Urge for Immediate Gaza Truce, Peace Talks
(MENAFN) Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron engaged in a phone discussion on Monday, focusing heavily on escalating regional tensions, particularly the ongoing conflict involving the Palestinians, according to a statement released by the Egyptian presidency.
President Sisi commended France for backing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and detailed Egypt’s active initiatives aimed at brokering a ceasefire in Gaza. These efforts include mediating the release of hostages and detainees, and coordinating humanitarian aid shipments to civilians trapped in the besieged territory.
He also reaffirmed Egypt's endorsement of an upcoming international peace summit scheduled to take place in New York later this month. The goal of the conference is to reignite stalled peace negotiations centered around the two-state solution.
Sisi emphasized that the only sustainable route to regional peace lies in establishing a sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In response, Macron acknowledged Egypt’s pivotal role in maintaining regional peace and security. He voiced France’s support for Cairo’s diplomatic efforts to end the violence in Gaza and alleviate the humanitarian suffering on the ground.
Both leaders agreed on the necessity of maintaining close Egypt-France coordination in addressing shared regional challenges.
