US House to vote on accelerated release of Epstein files
The accelerated schedule comes as Republican frustration grows. Many GOP members, though cautious about opposing former President Trump, feel pressure to support the release amid calls from figures like Representatives Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene and concerns over appearing to protect pedophiles.
Rep. Tim Burchett urged swift action: “Just get it to the daggum floor and let the people decide,” adding that he is “tired of messing around” and wants the House to vote without further delay.
Johnson noted that leaders plan to advance the measure “as soon as possible,” and with 218 signatures now secured, “we might as well just do it.” The final signature came with the swearing-in of Democrat Adelita Grijalva, overcoming resistance from GOP leadership and late White House pressure.
Meanwhile, the House Oversight Committee released another 20,000 pages from Epstein’s estate, including emails in which Epstein referenced US President Donald Trump over the past 15 years, drawing immediate attention from Democrats. Epstein died by suicide in federal custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, and his accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, was convicted in 2021 of related offenses.
