Explosion in Lviv Kills One, Injures Twenty in Terrorist Attack

(MENAFN) Ukraine reported that an explosion in its western city of Lviv resulted in the death of one person and injuries to 25 others on Sunday.

The Ukrainian National Police stated that a store break-in was reported to its hotline around 12:30 a.m. local time (22:30 GMT Saturday). Upon arrival of the first patrol crew, an explosion occurred. “It was previously established that improvised explosive devices detonated. A 23-year-old policewoman died as a result of the explosions,” the statement said. A second explosion was reported shortly after a second patrol unit reached the scene.

Investigative teams, explosives specialists, and other emergency services were dispatched to the area. Those injured are receiving medical care. Authorities have classified the incident as a “terrorist attack,” initiating criminal proceedings under the national Criminal Code, with the regional anti-terrorism service conducting a pre-trial investigation.

Maksym Kozytskyi confirmed via Telegram that the perpetrators could face up to 12 years in prison along with property confiscation. He also updated that some of the injured are in serious condition, bringing the total number of injured to 25.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy later reported on X that Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko confirmed the detention of a suspect believed to be responsible for the attack.
