Qatar Supports Extending US-Iran Ceasefire If Talks Fail in Pakistan

(MENAFN) Qatar has expressed support for extending the current ceasefire between the United States and Iran if ongoing Pakistan-mediated negotiations fail to produce a final agreement.

Speaking at a press conference in Doha, Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said Qatar backs prolonging the truce until a peaceful resolution is reached.

He warned that a return to conflict would be harmful for all parties and could have serious consequences for the global economy, according to his remarks.

Al-Ansari also said Qatar supports Pakistan’s mediation efforts and remains in contact with various stakeholders while closely following developments. He rejected the idea that Gulf countries are being left out of regional discussions.

He added that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz has turned the crisis into a global concern, stating that efforts are underway with international partners to stabilize conditions in the waterway.

The spokesman also called on Iran to continue dialogue and return to negotiations in order to reach a peaceful settlement.

Tensions in the region escalated earlier this month following military strikes and subsequent restrictions on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy shipments.
