Trump Extends Iran Ceasefire Until Tehran Submits Unified Proposal
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the decision followed a request from Pakistani leaders, including Pakistan’s army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who asked Washington to pause further military escalation while Iranian authorities work on a joint position.
"I have therefore directed our Military to continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the Ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other," he said. Trump also noted in the post that Iran's leadership had been "seriously fractured."
The move comes amid uncertainty surrounding planned diplomatic engagement, including a US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance, which was expected to travel to Islamabad for further talks with Iran but was delayed due to additional policy discussions in Washington.
Those discussions were expected to follow an earlier round of negotiations held in Pakistan earlier this month that ended without an agreement.
The ceasefire, originally set to expire on Wednesday, now remains in effect under the extension announced by Washington.
