DR Congo Reports Over Three-Hundred Ebola Cases

(MENAFN) Confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have exceeded 300, according to figures released Monday by the country’s Health Ministry.

Officials also reported that the death toll from the outbreak has climbed to 48 as the virus continues to spread.

The epidemic is now present in 23 health zones across the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu, as stated by reports citing the ministry.

Ituri province, an area long affected by insecurity, has recorded more than 260 confirmed infections.

Health authorities said that community resistance in the provincial capital Bunia and the northeastern town of Nizi, along with misinformation and rumors, is hindering response operations.

On Monday, officials also confirmed that four patients had recovered and been discharged from the Evangelical Medical Center in Bunia.
